I hold that artistic creation as a dialog with the world around us. My artistic practice is responding to & questioning the created nature which surrounds me. I am drawn towards what I like to call Earth’s Memory Holders: mountains, canyons, rock formations, forests, ancient oaks, gravestones, and women. Beings that hold within themselves evidence of time’s passage and experience invisible to the naked eye. Drawing line by line over a slow period of time gives me space to muse about my subjects, listen to information about the certain tree or geological form, remember my own journey as a woman, pray to the Creator of these things. I wouldn’t call my work realistic, it has an illustrative and abstracted quality to it. I am not interested in depicting the natural world in photocopy. I am interested nudging the viewer to think about the trees, rocks, and women around them. I see my work as response sprouting from wonder not representation of the wonder.
